HOW WE STARTED
OVER 100 YEARS OF HISTORY
The Twelfth Avenue Baptist Mission began as a Community Sunday school, attended by children whose parents were having financial difficulties.
Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church was established.
The first church building was erected in the 1100 block of Brooks Avenue, Columbus Ohio.
On September 8, groundbreaking service was held for the new building to be built at 1561 Dell Avenue. Church services were held in the basement until the sanctuary was completed.
On April 14th, the Cornerstone laying ceremony was held. On Easter Sunday, the Membership marched from the wet basement to a beautiful sanctuary.
Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, Corinthian Baptist Church and Jordan Baptist Church joined together to build 55 housing units in the Model Neighborhood bearing the name Mrs. Rosa Parks.
Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church was reincorporated as The Greater Twelfth Missionary Baptist Church.
The street name the church is located on was changed from Dell Avenue to Cleophus Kee Boulevard.
Greater Twelfth completed a year long process in search of a new pastor. God sent us Reverend Joseph W. Stanley Jr. as the 12th Pastor of the Greater Twelfth Baptist Church.
Over the history of The Greater Twelfth Missionary Baptist Church 12 ministers have served as Pastor. Pastor Cleophus Kee is remembered for his 46 years of service.
